Afterthought

One more thing that struck me at the conference today. People were nice. People from all over the country were in uncomfortable chairs in little rooms that are either too hot or cold. But everyone is polite. They make conversation with strangers. They get coffee just cause they're up anyway. They say thank you.

Boston people are mean. Cliche but true. No one smiles or says hello or starts a conversation or does favors just because. People that do get weird looks and are thought to be high or homeless or begging. Eventually people that are mean to strangers get in the habit of being mean as normative behavior. To be rude, or inconsiderate. Then people start being mean to their friends because we are in an atmosphere where no one is nice anymore.

64 days til I'm going where people smile.
